GRAY MATTER

Often an under-rated color between black and white. Gray has some benefits. Less of a black - less humid. Less of a white means not being OC of looking dirty literally.

I was looking for one since it's summer time + I often find white shirts too sheer. I bumped into an article from People Mag's Style Watch column. Guess who wore some gray stuff?

Olsen Twins. I like the get-up on the right better. It's just so sophisticated and elegant. Though the left is effortlessly spontaneous as well.

I bought my 'save' version of a gray shirt at Tomato. Opted for v-neck cut since it will create a longer neck illusion. Pair it jeans and you're good to go. For a meager price - I think it will serve its purpose. Not bad for a classic ensemble! -CMK.

#82 : REMEMBER, 100 YEARS FROM NOW, ALL NEW PEOPLE

My good friend Patti recently shared this bit of wisdom with me that she learned from one of her favorite authors. It has added a great deal of perspective to my life.

In the scheme of things, one hundred years isn't all that long a time. However, one thing is for sure: A hundred years from now we will be gone from this planet. And when kept in mind, this idea can fill us with needed perspective during times of perceived crisis or stress.

If you have a flat tire or lock yourself out of your house, what's it going to mean one hundred years from now? How about if someone acted unkindly toward you or if you had to stay up most of the night working? What if your house didn't get cleaned or your computer breaks down? Supposed you can't afford to go on a much needed vacation, buy a new car or move to a larger apartment? All of these things and most others are brought into a deeper perspective when looked at with a-hundred-year view.

CLINIQUE 3-STEP SKIN CARE

CLINIQUE'S 3+1-STEP FACIAL CARE SET

First comes the food for thought - Clinique is a manufacturer of skincare, cosmetics, toiletries and fragrances, owned by the Estée Lauder Corporation (from Wikipedia). The brand boasts of their well-known 3-step skin care. Let's go back to basics:

1) CLEANSE. Non-drying formulas leave all skins feeling fresh, clean and comfy.
2) EXFOLIATE. Sweeps away pollution, excess oil, dulling flakes to reveal fresher skin.
3) MOISTURIZE. Gives skin the "drink" it needs to maintain optimal moisture balance.

THE AVENGERS 2012

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH?

And then there are some quotes:

Nick Fury: What are you prepared to do?
---------------------------------------------
Tony Stark: Let's do a head count. We have two trained assassins, a demi-god,
a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend?

Loki: I have an army!
Tony Stark: We have a hulk!
---------------------------------------------
Bruce Banner/The Hulk: We're not a team. We're a time bomb.
---------------------------------------------

Aside from the fact that we can see our comic book characters alive (like us), movie reviews sound like clap! clap! clap! It is nice to go back to that tiny kid in us every once so often. This is definitely one of the movies to watch out for. Why is?

* 8 super heroes in one silver screen. Sabi nga ni Bimby "What's chik-chik (siksik) mama?!"
* Chris Evans is Captain America. (blush...)
* 2D or 3D. Take your pick.
* Trailer looks promising. You don't believe me? Watch this..

It's now showing in Manila (beginning 25 April on all major malls). I haven't watched it yet, but you bet I will. -CMK.

TOP 3 SCENTS APPEAL

According to The Smell Report, "The association of fragrance and emotion is not an invention of poets or perfume-makers." What we smell directly affects our brain (think of a movie scene where a victim was forcefully asked to sniff and then she suddenly fell asleep). Now - that's food for thought.

I am surfing the net when I passed by some perfumes used by people, generally. And then a thought hit me, maybe I should share my Top 3 Scent-sational Finds with you guys. How about that?

Top #1 goes to Clinique Happy Heart. Ultimate pick it is because it's Eau de Parfum, long lasting than Eau de Toilette. It has that citrus type of sniff that jives with CMK so well. Few whiffs will last for hours. This is perfect for client meetings, even formal events. I had it for the longest. Ever since university days, I am a fan of Clinique both "Happy Heart" and simply "Happy".

Top #2 goes to Moschino Funny. Judging by what's left on this bottle, this potion is a must. It's actually my first time to try Moschino brand and I am glad I did! Bottle is packed with fresh aroma. Perfect for everyday use. Specially now that summer's here, this is a bare necessity. Also, the packaging is adorable. It even has a pink ribbon when I bought it. Sweet!

THAT 15-MINUTE EXERCISE

Nice seeing a trimmed waistline and lean body. But our next question is - how long does it really take to get that supreme physique? I, for one, has tried much. I mean that much. But I always find myself caught up in a weight plateau (put simply, only 1 to 2 lbs of weight loss).

Last night, I was browsing some magazines, when I noticed this phrase. 15-Minutes: the amount of time that you need to be healthy. Notice the words, HEALTHY and not SEXY (though I would love to achieve both... laughs!)

I realized that what's important is to "motivate" yourself to exercise primarily NOT to lose tons of weight but to just be plain healthy. Put simply:

YOU EXERCISE BECAUSE IT'S THE HEALTHY THING TO DO.

ROCKING WITH COLORBLOCKING

Color blocking is so old yet so new. Trend has been here for some time but it's freshness still lingers.
Some tips:

Do not overload your getup with colors. Keep it to a minimum. There's a thin line between just right and just wrong. Highlight one piece at a time. If you have a colorful dress. Make sure that your shoes or bag are a bit toned down. With the rising trend of "bold" colors - Any color combinations would look great if you know how to pull it off.

FAST FOOD AROUND THE GLOBE

Here are the fast food (and cafe) goodies that I have met across the globe:

Dunkin' Donut (Seoul, Korea)
When the temperature feels like -12 degrees, hot drinks are selling like pancakes on every store. But - I should say this, their hot chocolate are uber yummy! It has that choco, creamy, hazelnutty feeling. Oh dear. I think I have consumed about 3 or 4 cups the entire trip. It costs about 3,000 Korean Won, but this chug worthy dude. Believe me. (Caution : Consume Moderately. Poop. Poop. You get it.)

"No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel
until he comes home and rests his head
on his old, familiar pillow.” – Lin Yutang

Mc Donald's (Schiphol Airport, Netherlands)
Took this familiar meal at Schiphol Airport. Fries and burger flavor were quite bland (but I think that's usual for their palate) What attracted me most is that they seldom serves softdrinks, they have packed juice (Tropicana) instead. If you'll ask me a story behind this meal - I haven't got the chance to munch them all. I was so nervous and having all that mixed emotion of traveling alone so there. Is it good or bad?

SUMMER: COLOR HUE GREEN

Summer means playfulness.
Don't you wish you're
this COOL!
SUMMER is here no doubt! Temperature's rising up to 34 degrees. It's getting hotter by the day.

Green. Such a summery color. Forget that I have been (and will always be blue) - school rivalry aside - green is such a treat to the eyes.

Just remember our safety rule - summery color + something neutral (i.e. white, black, brown).

I got the pants from Bayo. They were on sale @ MOA and this is a real steal. If you'll tweet me, I'll whisper you the price (^-^).

Top is from Weekender @ SM Department Store. It exposes my "not-so-flauntable" arms, but hey - it's Summer! Everybody's entitled to breathe some more!

TIPS TO TRY THIS SUMMER:
1. Wear a nature colored pants.
2. Paint your nails something pastel.
3. Wear whites, ditch blacks for now.
4. Don a feet-friendly platforms. Either that or wear your Havaianas.
5. Lastly, whatever your getup is, feel good about yourself!

Be bubbly. Enjoy the sun. Hot as it is - there's always a ton of things to be thankful for. -CMK.

LASIK AT HALF THE PRICE (50% OFF) @ SHINAGAWA (MAKATI)

There was a promo before at dealspot about the same LASIK treatment that I got last March 2012 (click here). But, as you have noticed, the promo has been sold out!  For those of you who are still interested...  feel free to let me know by:

1. sending a tweet or direct message via twitter @callmekristine; or
2. you can also opt to leave a comment on this blog post

Be sure to include any  of your contact details where I can reach you.

I am {still} thankful for the experience because, to sum it all up, there's only one word to describe this: LIBERATING!

Imagine, waking up in the morning not groping for your glasses or contact lenses. Seeing the beauty of the underseas (think: fishes and corals under Boracay beach without the hassle of contact lenses), reading every signage as far as who knows who.

And I believe, one of the reasons why Shinagawa keeps on coming up with lots of promo is that they want to impart the gift of vision at a most affordable rate possible.

SKIN FOOD ALOE WATER MAKEUP REMOVER

For the big, bold pics blog format, blame it on Rogue's cool qualities (to know more of her, click HERE). I am loving her by the day (^-^)

Let me present to you, Skin Food's Aloe Water Eye and Lip Remover. By now, I hope you're not getting enough of Korean Products. I can't get enough of them. Why?

1. Because if you bought it straight from Korea (South, of course) - the price is super affordable. Say, for this specific goodie, you can get it for a very fair deal.

2. Au Naturale. I've heard one of my friends says that she once tried to go for over the counter brands and when she applied it to her face there's a mild burning sensation aka. mahapdi. (gasp!)

3. What's with the box next to it? That's the fun part when you buy at Korean stores, they have lots of freebies. To answer your question, it's a pack of a unique kind of cotton. Like a padded cloth that absorbs and lock the formula more. In fer - we have these cottons in our local supermarkets, costs around Php 30.

4. It wipes away {make-up} effectively. I don't believe in make-up removers before, even speculated that I can wash my face multiple times and that such costs extra cash. But I realized that my friends got a point. I may not see it but there may be make-up residues that can cause skin irritation or worst, zits. So I gave in the first time. My face feels cleaner! Though I don't wear make-ups everyday, it pays to sleep with a clean face.

We can't over emphasize the importance of being hygienic. It always pay to be mindful of stuffs we're applying into our face. After all - we only have one face. -CMK

#17 : SURRENDER TO THE FACT THAT LIFE IS NOT FAIR

A friend of mine, in response to a conversation we were having about the injustices of life, asked me the question, "Who said life was going to be fair, or that it was even meant to be fair?" Her question was a good one. It reminded me of something I was taught as a youngster: Life isn't fair. It's a bummer, but it's absolutely true. Ironically, recognizing this sobering fact can be a very liberating insight.

One of the mistakes many of us make is that we feel sorry for ourselves, or for others, thinking that life should be fair, or that someday it will be. It's not and it won't. When we make this mistake we tend to spend a lot of time wallowing and/or complaining about what's wrong with life. We commiserate with others, discussing the injustices of life. "It's not fair," we complain, not realizing that, perhaps, it was never intended to be.

One of the nice things about surrendering to the fact that life isn't fair is that it keeps us from feeling sorry for ourselves by encouraging us to do the very best we can with what we have. We know it's not "life's job" to make everything perfect, it's our own challenge. Surrendering to this fact also keeps us from feeling sorry for others because we are reminded that everyone is dealt a different hand, and everyone has unique strengths and challenges. This insight has helped me to deal with the problems of raising two children, the difficult decisions I've had to make about who to help and who I can't help, as well as with my own personal struggles during those times that I have felt victimized or unfairly treated. It almost always wakes me up to reality and puts me back on track.

MEET AND GREET ROUGE

I get it. You're probably wondering how, in this day and age, one soul opted to acquire a point-and-shoot camera instead of a well-adored DSLR. I am for cameras. I love taking pictures. I've weighed the pros and cons. And old school prevailed. 2 Things:

* Wallet friendly. Rogue's cost is only 33% of the price of a DSLR that I'm drooling for. Sure it may have a thing or two differences, but it serves my purpose. Which brings me on to my next point.

*Frequency and Ease of Use. How 'often' will I use a cam? If I'll be honest - answer is
"not-so-everyday-often". Also how 'heavy' or 'light' my new bud will be? You won't see me bringing the 'stuff' on a get-together, followed by some serious shopping. For obvious reasons.

Moving on - I've learned that Canon holds the upper hand in terms of imagery. I'm not a believer of this brand until our Seoul trip (click here) with my dear friends. Lynne brought with her an SLR (worth drooling too, if I may add) and the pictures are super! And mind you, it's RAW. My old cam are handy but I always end up spicing the pics using Picassa. But with Canon, it's the best of both worlds. They're living up to their tag line... "Delighting You Always."

Meet Rogue. Digital IXUS 300 HS.
By the way, Rouge is a french name for Red.
Guess what's her color? -CMK.

BATANG BATIBOT

Mga Bagay na nakaukit sa isipan ko tungkol sa Batibot:
1. Ba-be-bi-bo-buuu ni Manang Bola.
2. Si Ate Ning-ning at ang makulit na si Ging-ging.
3. Kuwento ni Ate Sienna at Kuya Bogie.
4. Munting away ni Pong Pagong at Kiko Matsing.
5. Kaweirdo-han ng dalawang aliens na si Sitsiritsit at Alibangbang.
6. Mababang lipad ng reddish na si Kapitan Basa.
7. Hugis, Kulay at Letra habang kinakanta.

"Tubig ulan ... tubig ulaaaan.... (excerpt from Bangkang Papel)

-CMK.
